Carved into the mountainsides of the Philippines over generations, the Banaue Rice Terraces transform steep terrain into a landscape of ascending levels. From a distance, the mountain appears almost sculpted, each terrace following the land while creating a new surface upon it.
The Banaue Terraces Set draws from this relationship between land, structure, and elevation. Four individually shaped trays rise one within another, creating a gradual progression in scale and height. A broad turquoise green base holds a warm beige form, followed by a deep smoky green capsule and a small white circular tray at the highest point.
Unlike a pattern applied across a surface, the landscape here is created by the pieces themselves. Their different proportions and elevations form the composition, with each level becoming the ground for the one above it.
Displayed together, the four forms create a small sculptural terrain. Separated, each becomes an individual object while retaining its place within the larger landscape.
